Autobiography
I began my martial arts training in the summer of 1994 under the instruction of my husband, Joey Cadena. I elected to be his certification student during his Qualifying Instructorship with the I.K.C.A. I've also worked closely with SGM Sullivan and GM LeRoux at their California studio and through video correspondence.
At the young age of 21 and 20 respectively, Joey and I ventured to open a karate studio in our hometown of Falfurrias in 1995. We started the our first class in Joey's garage, but as the number of students grew, the decision to move into an official building was made.
For the past 14 years, I've managed the business operations of each of our schools, and I've routinely assisted in the class instruction. When the school expanded into include a fitness gym in 1999, I became a certified fitness trainer and instructed several weekly cardio kickboxing classes along with training clients in the areas of personal fitness and proper nutrition.
Over the years, I have contributed to the planning, preparation, and production of the many summer camps, martial arts expos, and community events for our schools. I have also had the pleasure of collaborating and networking with some of the top martial artists in the country at seminars and tournaments.
I recently graduated from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi with a Master's Degree in Educational Technology in 2002, and I am now pursuing my Doctorate in Higher Education and Adult Learning from Walden University. I am currently a Senior Technology Integration Specialist for Region One Education Service Center.
